Sky Harbor security to be eased

Security at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport will ease with the lowering of the national threat level to yellow on Wednesday.
"We expect to receive the security directive by (today)," said Suzanne Luber, regional spokeswoman for the federal Transportation Safety Administration. "Then we will talk with the airport and the airlines about the appropriate action to take.
"It will take some time. People won't see changes immediately."
The decreased security will mean suspension of the random inspections for cars entering the airport, said Deborah Ostreicher, spokeswoman for the airport. Inspections of cars parking in garages next to the terminal also will cease, she said.
"But we will keep a high level of vigilance in the terminal," Ostreicher said. "There will be an increased level of police staffing, announcements and signs telling people to report anything suspicious."
The inspections have been in place about a month, since the threat level was raised to orange after the war began.
